Winter 2008-2009

Day

Journal

Otherwise known as the winter of my first hockey….

Starting in September, and continuing 2-5 days each week, I got to play hockey this winter.  And I love it.  I can’t wait for practices or games, and like to wake Mommy and Daddy at 6am on these days.  Best if I get dressed in my hockey stuff before the sun comes up.

It was a long season (until March), but it was wonderful.  I had so much fun, learned so much, and met all sorts of new friends.  I even enjoy the outdoor practices, where it was sometimes zero degrees.

The first couple of practices, I got to skate with the first-year and second year mini-mites.

I was very proud to successfully avoid the pile of first-year mites that tended to accumulate two and three skaters deep a step or two on the ice.  I soon joined the more-experienced second year players in drills and practices.

I did spend some time learning the rules, but the first practices and drills were a lot of fun.

I would always be the first on the ice and last off, sweating up a storm.  Once undressed, my first question would be….

When’s my next hockey?

Followed by What day is it today?

Then I practiced my math.

Every once and awhile, I would fall down.  But I learned how to get back on my skates quickly.

We also found some other fun ways to practice skating.  We got invited to skate at the Xcel Energy Center, where the Wild play hockey.

I’ve been coming here all of my life, so it was lots of fun to finally skate here.

I even took time to get in some outdoor work with my brother, Justin.

Another favorite was getting to skate at Mariucci Arena, where my beloved Minnesota Golden Gophers play.

First, some of the Gopher parents got me all dressed and ready to go.

Next, I met some of the players and got their autographs.

I also got to play some games out on the concourse.

But of course, the best was skating with Goldy, some of the players, and Daddy.

But the best were game days.

I got to put on my Red game jersey

I got to skate with just my team.

And we got to score goals and win games.
